VIncent's trip to Leeds

Leeds is the modern-day powerhouse of Yorkshire, a city seemingly awash with style; as the birthplace of Marks & Spencer back in 1884, it has retail in its lifeblood. Today its shopping centre is one of the most glamorous in the north of England, featuring everything from über-expensive designer names around the glittering Victorian arcades, to big-name international chains in sleek Trinity Leeds and funky vintage boutiques in the Corn Exchange. From bargain-basement finds in labyrinthine Kirkgate Market to stylish gifts and rare vinyl finds, here’s how to make the most of shopping in Leeds.

The Corn Exchange

  • Shop opening hours are usually 9am–6pm Monday through Friday, and 11am–5pm on Sunday.
  • Stalls in Kirkgate Market will usually only accept cash; make sure you have some small denomination notes and coins with you.
  • Most shops in Leeds take credit and debit cards but no longer accept personal cheques.
  • Shop sales in Leeds run from Boxing Day (December 24) to mid-January, and then again sometime between July and September.
