Austria (Vienna, Lower Austria), Amsterdam, Germany (North Rhine-Westphalia , Bavaria) +1 more...
Encompassing three of Europe’s most famous waterways - the Danube, Main and Rhine - this leisurely cruise promises picturesque riverscapes at every bend. Enjoy a morning coffee on deck as we sail the most famous stretch, the beautiful Lorelei Passage. In between sails, you’ll wander wide-eyed through world-famous cities such as Budapest, Amsterdam and Vienna; stroll through the winding villages streets in Miltenburg, Wertheim and Rüdesheim; and make historic discoveries in Nuremberg.
Day 1UK - Budapest
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your flight to Budapest. On arrival, we embark MS Bellejour (4-star), where light refreshments are available.
Grandeur on the Danube, Budapest offers dramatic history, brilliant architecture and healing thermal waters. Perhaps join the optional city tour this morning, which takes in relics and monuments and gives an insight into the city’s history in both Buda and Pest. Or, make your own discoveries with free time to explore the market hall or enjoy a coffee in Vörösmarty Square.
We arrive in Slovakia early afternoon. Perhaps join our excursion into Bratislava on the tourist train. See the lovingly restored Old Town and imposing Bratislava Castle (Hrad), which dominates the cityscape. With a total of 11 kings and 8 queens crowned within the castle’s white walls - and relics of communism - the city has a colourful history to discover.
Vienna is the city of the waltz, the Spanish Riding School, Sachertorte and the famous Vienna Boys’ Choir. We enjoy an included city tour, taking you to the Ringstrasse and the famous St Stephen’s Cathedral. This evening, the option to witness a concert in the iconic opera house is not to be missed.
Awake this morning in Melk, undoubtedly a highlight of any Danube cruise, with its abbey-fortress towering over the valley from above. Follow the maze of cobbled streets as you wander past the city’s best bits. Perhaps join our optional excursion to the magnificent 18th century Benedictine Abbey, originally built as a palace.
Spend the morning exploring Passau’s old town. Our optional excursion will take you to the baroque St Stephen’s Cathedral, home to the largest church organ in the world. Photographers might like to make their way up to Veste Oberhaus to capture the views of Passau below.
We arrive in Regensburg this morning to enjoy exploring the cathedrals, churches, monasteries and town hall of one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Germany at leisure. This was the first capital of Bavaria, a status that has rewarded it with many fine sights. You may like to take an optional excursion to Weltenburg Abbey, a Benedictine monastery on a bend in the Danube renowned for its beauty and for holding the world’s oldest monastic brewery.
Get up close and personal with Bavaria’s second-largest city this morning with an included city tour. Once the preferred residence of most German kings and the scene of party rallies in Nazi Germany, Nuremberg has quite the history behind it. After the tour, take some time to explore the historic mile that runs through the city for yourself.
Our third taste of Bavaria is the enchanting town of Bamberg. Head out bright and early to make the most of the UNESCO-listed old town before we set sail this afternoon. The town had a huge influence on Germany from the 10th century onwards, by inspiring eminent philosophers who lived there. Marvel at the Romanesque Cathedral where emperors and popes lie entombed. Our optional tour for the day also includes the magnificent New Residenz palace. The beautiful rose gardens boast over 4,500 blooms in the summer, and offer fantastic city views.
The Würzburg Residence Palace is a masterpiece of southern German baroque and one of the most important castles by Balthasar Neumann. It was built at the beginning of the 18th century for Prince-Bishop Johann Philipp Franz von Schönborn. The wonderful frescoes and magnificent staircase, with its unsupported vaulted ceiling, have been painstakingly restored. We visit the palace on an included walking tour.
Day 11Wertheim - Miltenberg
Get a glimpse of village life today between Wertheim and Miltenberg. Take a morning stroll through quaint Wertheim. This afternoon, in medieval Miltenberg, perhaps opt for a beer tasting at a local brewery. Explore the town’s beautiful timber-framed houses and the small castle surrounded by wooded hillsides.
Rüdesheim is small-town Germany at its best. Explore the weaving streets of the old town at your leisure and perhaps ascend up to the Niederwalddenkmal monument by cable car for fantastic views over the vineyards and river below. You’ll also enjoy the quirks of Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Museum on an included tour.
Day 13Rüdesheim - Lorelei Passage - Koblenz
Take to the top deck for your morning coffee today - you won’t want to miss out on the views as we sail along the most beautiful part of the Rhine. Pass castle after castle, renowned vineyards and the legendary Lorelei Rock - a stunning experience. Arrive in Koblenz over lunch and spend the afternoon exploring this 2,000-year-old city and its ancient old quarter. If all this exploring is making you thirsty, there’s an optional wine-tasting excursion to Deinhard Cellar Museum.
You’ll immediately notice the towering spires of Cologne’s magnificent cathedral as you step ashore today. Enjoy a guided city tour of the city’s highlights before sometime to explore for yourself. Filled with Gothic, medieval and Roman architecture, there’s a picture-worthy moment at every turn.
Amsterdam is a favourite amongst Europe’s cities - and for good reason. Filled with the tilting gabled buildings that mark the Golden Age and laced with winding canals, it’s certainly a pretty and unique city to wander. But more than that, Amsterdam holds fascinating insights into the lives of world-renowned artists, craft breweries, quaint pancake parlours and an incredibly diverse selection of museums. We take a tour this morning, including a cruise along its famous canals, to discover the city’s inspiring past. The afternoon is at leisure for you to discover the city under your own steam.
