The Rhine offers one of the most magical river landscape in Europe, a land of magnificent castles, wonderful half-timbered houses snuggled along vine-clad banks and steep valley sides. From earliest times, the Rhine has also been a pivotal place for religious, intellectual, and artistic ideas. It has been called a ‘triumphal avenue of the muses’ and a trip along its banks today reveals endless treasures. Legend and history wait around every bend of the river…wonderful…!

The city of Bonn has an eventful past: not only was it the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany from 1949 to 1990; it also looks back on a history that spans more than 2,000 years. This makes Bonn, the site of former Teuton and Roman settlements, one of the oldest cities in Germany. It is also Beethoven’s birthplace and, as you would expect, his life is widely celebrated throughout the city. Bonn also boasts fabulous architecture from modern buildings through to a network of half-timbered and historic buildings centred around the main square and town hall. With its setting on the mighty Rhine, Bonn is a great place to visit.
The romantic town of Koblenz, due to its strategic importance at the confluence of the Rhine & Moselle rivers, has seen its fair share of battles throughout history. It remains rich in Gothic and Baroque architecture, with a pedestrianised area, town hall and attractive façades.
Situated on the banks of the Rhine is the pretty town of Rudesheim, with its crooked narrow streets, medieval houses, riverside cafes, colourful boutiques and the famous Drosselgasse - a street packed with lively Klosterkellers and Weinkellers. Take the time to ride the cable car up into the vineyards steeped high above the town (small charge applies) or just spend the time wandering Rudesheim's pretty streets, listen to the traditional German Oompah bands or just sit on one of the many terraces with a local beer and watch the world go by...
