Day 2 – Ahr Valley Train & Mayschoss with wine tasting and buggy ride
Our first memorable railway journey is aboard the Ahr Valley ‘push-n-pull’ train between pretty Remagen and Altenahr. The scenery here is strikingly picturesque and the line takes us through vineyards that produce the local Burgundy-style wines.
Fittingly, we then travel to the charming village of Mayschoss where we enjoy a buggy ride through the vineyards followed by a tasting of these delicious wines.
Day 3 – Volcano Express Train & Cochem
We travel to Engeln for our second railway journey on the Volcano (Vulkan) Express, a narrow-gauge railway that takes us up into the beautiful Eifel Mountains and on to Brohl-Lützing, offering some spectacular photo opportunities along the way.
We also spend time in Cochem. Surrounded by steep vineyards, this lovely town of half-timbered houses and winding streets also boasts a flower-bedecked promenade and a magnificent castle that rises dramatically above the town.
Travel back to Calais for our return ferry home.
