Ilfracombe, Devon is an ideal destination for a coach holiday as it is a great seaside resort and a great base to explore Devon and Cornwall countryside and coastline. During the summer months the promenade is alive with colour with award winning floral displays.
Inhabited since the Iron Age with the Celts establishing a hill fort on Hillsborough Ilfracombe is rich in history. Up until the 19th century Ilfracombe was a small fishing and market town, inhabited by fishermen and frequented by smugglers. During the Victorian era however, like so many other seaside towns Ilfracombe became a popular tourist destination, which was aided by the arrival of the railway. During this time the Tunnel Beaches were hand carved from the cliffs, and a great deal of the town was built up, the majority of its Victorian charm still remains today.
