Blackpool Illuminations 2015

4th September - 8th November 2015

The Blackpool Illuminations are Blackpool's world-famous northern lights. An amzing 3 million visitors go and see these spectacular displays every year!

The Illuminations will be alight from 4th September - 8th November 2015.
The Illuminations have been a major part of Blackpool's attraction since 1879 and have been a guiding light for visitors to the resort ever since.


This year's event is going to amaze everyone, as there's a whole host of new and revamped displays including Venus Reborn, Talbot Square, Theatre D'Amour and Brilliance, which are designed to dazzle and delight the crowds with new programmes, sounds and shows. The Blackpool tower will dazzle the everyone, providing a beacon to the Illuminations, which are regarded as a world class lighting attraction.

Blackpool's award-winning Illuminations are guaranteed to give every visitor a sparkling night, whatever the weather. More plans are yet to be announced, including plans for a ¼ mile gallery of illuminated street art by some of the UK's top rated Urban artists, 2015 is set to be a year to remember.

Blackpool History

For hundreds of years, Blackpool was little more than a quiet seaside village. A difficult place to get to, Blackpool rarely received visitors.

What really changed everything was the arrival of the railway in the Blackpool area. by 1840 a railway had been constructed with the original objective of transporting passengers to Fleetwood a town lying to the North of Blackpool, however by 1863 another railway station was built in the centre of Blackpool to help cope with the thousands of people who wanted to get to the resort.

In the following 40 years Blackpool found itself transformed. Three piers were opened; Blackpool Tower was constructed, the Winter Gardens and Opera House were built, the Blackpool Illuminations began, the development of the Golden Mile was initiated, as well as ambitious plans to create a large amusement park, which most know today as Blackpool pleasure beach.
